Recommendations
Over the coming months, I will be exploring a list of personal suggestions, favourites, places, recommendations and other topics of various interests via newsletter/blog.
Meanwhile here is a briefest of glimpses of a few suggestion from Scotland, Glasgow in particular for now.
Gutter Magazine– As the former Poetry Reviews Editor, I had a wonderful time in my role here. Scotland’s premier International literary magazine featuring some of the top names in Scotland and beyond, with excellent poetry, fiction, interviews etc, My time there was a special privilege, especially to be surrounded by such an incredibly stellar all star team.
Spam Magazine– One of the most remarkable discoveries during my time in Glasgow was discovering for the first time, Zine culture, (not really so prevalent in Bangladesh or Luxembourg in the same format) and nowhere I found to be a better representative of the incredible cutting edge work that currently exists within the Glasgow literary scene than Spam Magazine. Once run by Maria Sledmere, it takes on an equally interesting turn with Kirsty Dunlop at the helm. A perfect place for so much, including post-internet poetry. What is post-internet poetry? The website explains that as well.
Contralytic Journal– A fantastic new journal that emerged from Glasgow University. Co-founded by Lucille Mona Ling and Nic Nahar Sharp, the journal is an interdisciplinary one that blends flash philosophy, poetry, visual art and interviews to good effect. Not to mention, it is so wonderfully produced with strong, fresh content. Now approaching a third issue, I am wishing this magazine gets more attention as it has the potential to grow into something truly special.
